William Nolen-Schmidt is a lifelong painter and printmaker. The inspiration for his work over the years has been drawn from many places and experiences including his early years in the Southeast and Southwest, an education in New York City, and numerous trips to Mexico. Nolen's sensitivity to injustices--cultural and political--cause the viewer to stop and consider the message behind his work. His artistic expression often appears in the form of large installations. Nolen's recent work frequently depicts the intricacies of insects and frogs; his detailed etched pieces can be appreciated by close inspection of fine lines and delicate application of color.
