Scotty Peek paints primarily abstract landscapes. "I appreciate the marks within a work of art, including the "accidents" and other struggles that are left visible as parts of the representational image become more clarified. I often stop or return to a painting when brushstrokes and lines start to convey reality, but are still easily recognizable as gestural marks; I often diminish some of the realistic illusion with nonrepresentational marks, purposefully drawing the viewer's attention away from the image and back to the line." Peek has a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of South Carolina as well as an undergraduate degree in Fine Arts. His work has been selected and recognized for numerous exhibitions. He is originally from Adalusia, AL., and currently resides in Columbia, SC with his wife and two children.
