Pier Hardin's passion for the beauty and mystery that surrounds her manifested itself in a thirty-two-year teaching career at the high school level. Recently retired, she is turning her avocation of painting into her primary focus. Hardin paints landscapes which spring from her imagination. The paintings are highly organic, patterned, and richly colored.
A native of Mobile, Alabama, she often draws inspiration from the rich diversity of plant and animal life that grows in the backyards, forests, and swamps nearby. Hardin paints mainly in oils or watercolor, and her pieces rarely contain a discernible horizon line. The work instead invites the viewer to develop a uniquely close and slightly surreal relationship with the subject matter.
