Maggie Stickney

Maggie Stickney

Maggie Stickney grew up on Long Island and attended Massachusetts
College of Art and Design. After receiving a BFA in printmaking, she moved
to NYC and worked toward a graduate degree in Art Therapy. Upon
moving to her husband’s hometown of Fairhope, she rediscovered

painting. She had previously spent several years designing and creating
custom fabrics for baby-brands while teaching her own young children art.
Stickney paints the natural world, focusing on wetlands. "The curves of the
earth, and the contrast of the sharp grass lines fascinate me," she says.
While often painting the coast, the artist is drawn to the edge of the two
worlds where land and water meet. She also finds herself creating still life
paintings of the subtle and simple things surrounding her, like house
plants. Stickney says that finding beauty in the ordinary has always been
her passion.
