Joy Gardner

Joy Gardner

Joy Gardner describes her work as a response to the observation of and exposure to the natural world around her. She creates from what her eye takes in—whether it’s a landscape, garden or flowers, or even indoor space, she’s reacting with paint to what she sees, hears, or remembers.

Gardner works in oils, watercolor, and mixed media. She is often influenced by the changing seasons. Her pieces include many layers of thick paint, thin washes, and often feature line work.

Gardner says, “Whether my finished work is recognizable and familiar or an abstract painting, I desire to create a piece that will draw the viewer in and entice the senses, leaving the observer with a feeling of connection.”
